Victory’s AFC Champions League play-off details confirmed

Melbourne Victory will play either Tampines Rovers or Bali United in Preliminary Round 2 of the 2020 AFC Champions League qualification process.

The match will be held at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium on Tuesday, January 21, with the kick-off time still TBC.

Tampines Rovers will host Bali United in Preliminary Round 1 in Singapore on Tuesday, January 14, with the winner progressing to face Victory.

The winner of the Preliminary Round 2 match will then travel to Japan to face either Kashima Antlers or Kawasaki Frontale in a Qualifying Play-off for a spot in the Group Stage.

Should Kashima, which finished third in the 2019 J1 League, win the 2019 Emperor’s Cup then the Qualifying Play-off spot will be given to Kawasaki, which finished fourth in the league.

Kashima will host V-Varen Nagasaki in the Emperor’s Cup semi-final on Saturday, December 21. The final will be played in Tokyo on January 1, 2020.

The winner of the Qualifying Play-off in Japan will enter Group E, alongside China’s Beijing FC and Thailand’s Chaingrai United.

The fourth Group Stage spot will be decided by another Qualifying Play-off between South Korea’s FC Seoul and either Kedah from Malaysia or Tai Po from Hong Kong.
