Midfielder Leigh Broxham says his side can improve on its big win over Western Sydney, as Victory prepares for Friday night’s clash with original rivals, Adelaide United.

Speaking after training, the 26-year-old said Friday night’s positive result had been reward for continued effort during pre-season.

“We’ve had a long pre-season, that’s been well documented and we prepared really well for that first game,” Broxham said.

“It was a real team effort, I thought everyone was outstanding.

“We looked at the game this morning, and there’s still stuff we know we can improve on. It’s a good start, it’s good to make a statement, but it’s one game, once we start to get some results in a row, it will help set our season up.”

While Victory’s strong performance in the season opener was widely praised across the Hyundai A-League, Broxham said the playing group knew there was still plenty of of work to do.

“We’re full of confidence and we have been all pre-season, so we’ll be aiming to continue that on Friday night.

“We’re not getting carried away. We’re looking to this weekend and we’re still looking to build on our performances and results as well.”

Broxham heaped special praise on defensive midfield pairing, Carl Valeri, praising the efforts of the Socceroo during his Melbourne Victory debut.

“I felt very confident with him in there, we’ve had a lot of time together in there in pre-season. I thought he was outstanding in midfield as well.”
