Melbourne Victory coach Kevin Muscat says he has been forced to make a number of changes for Friday night’s clash with Newcastle.

Skipper Mark Milligan may also be sidelined for the match, after being forced from the training track early in the club’s last hit out before flying to Newcastle.

Press play on the video above to hear from Muscat, injury updates on Milligan and Thompson, plus much more.

Muscat said with Nick Ansell, Scott Galloway, Jason Geria and Connor Pain away on international duty, plus Adrian Leijer suspended, there was an opportunity for players to step up.

“We are probably down to bare-bones in terms of numbers in the squad, but it’s not an excuse,” Muscat said.

“We’ll go to Newcastle and we will be positive and we’ll try and bring three points back.”

Archie Thompson is likely to play a part in Friday night’s match, after returning to full training following his hamstring concerns.

Meanwhile, Muscat said he wasn’t sure whether Milligan would be able to play on Friday night.

“Millsy has been struggling with his knee for a while now… he didn’t look comfortable, but it’s just an opportunity for someone else, a couple of young boys who are ready to come and play, so from our perspective we will concentrate on that,” he said.
