Melbourne Victory midfielder Jimmy Jeggo says his side’s timely defeat of the Mariners was the perfect lead up to midweek Asian Champions League football.

Press play on the video below to hear what Jeggo had to say about the win, plus his thoughts on his goal and Wednesday’s AFC Champions League clash against Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.

Jeggo said he was pleased to be able to help his side to victory, scoring the opener with a clinical finish in the 31st minute.

“Luckily enough I managed to get a shot away and it managed to sneak in,” Jeggo said.

The 22-year-old said the coaching staff were understandably disappointed with the performance his side put in during last week’s Melbourne Derby loss, but that they had learnt from the mistakes made.

“Us, as professionals we know when we haven’t played well enough,” he said.

“There’s still improvement to be made, but it certainly was a much better performance last night.

“It was a big game for us, it was good to get three points and consolidate that third position, but now we look forward to a big game on Wednesday night, so now we turn our focus to that.”
