VIDEO: Nabbout knocks back Lebanon

Andrew Nabbout says a burning desire to play for the Socceroos was his reason for not taking up the chance to represent Lebanon on the international stage.

The 20-year-old said Lebanese officials had been in contact with Melbourne Victory about his international availability.

"At the moment I've declined the offer, I've put it on hold because I'm still only 20 and I don't want to rule out my chances of playing for the Socceroos - that's a priority for me," Nabbout said.

"It's an honour for me and my family as well, with them coming from Lebanon, everyone's ecstatic that they even showed an interest in me."

With pre-season now in full swing and season launch less than 50 days away, Nabbout said preparations were stepping up on the training pitch and in the gym.

"It's tough, but that's what Ange wants and his expectations are high for all of us. Last season was a disappointing one for us, we didn't finish as high as we wanted to and we'll definitely be looking to rectify that this season."

Nabbout also praised his teammates for their recent performance against Liverpool, an experience he said he'll never forget.

"Being a lifelong Liverpool fan, it was a dream come true and it should be for anyone. They are one of the biggest clubs in the world and to test yourself against them is an honour."
