Melbourne Victory Head Coach Kevin Muscat says his side’s defensive lapses have to stop in order for his side to take all three points in Friday night’s clash with the Mariners.

Press play on the video below to hear Muscat’s thoughts on his starting XI, the recent run of results, plus much more.

Muscat said with just two home games remaining before Hyundai A-League finals, it was important for his side to cement its position on the ladder.

“(This match is) extremely important and when you add to that the congestion in the table and finals football not too far away, it’s definitely important,” Muscat said.

“We’ve got to show a greater desire not to concede goals. It’s got to hurt a lot more when we concede. We’re making it so much harder for us to go on and win games.”

Skipper Mark Milligan and Tom Rogic will miss Friday night’s match, as the duo won’t return in time from the Socceroos’ 4-3 loss to Ecuador in London, while New Zealand international Kosta Barbarouses will arrive in Melbourne on Friday morning with a decision on his involvement in the game to be made on match day.

“There’s a number of boys missing tomorrow night, but if I concentrate on who’s not here, there’s a great chance I’ll miss something that’s going on this week or something we need to prepare for. Last time I looked, we have more than 11 players to choose from.”

Muscat said Adama Traore would train today and the coach was optimistic the 24-year-old would be fit to take to the field against the Mariners.
