Adrian Leijer says Melbourne Victory’s finals fate lies largely in the club’s own hands, as Victory’s regular season comes to an end in New Zealand this Saturday.

Despite having secured finals football with a draw in Wellington last weekend, Leijer said his side knew Saturday’s Round 27 encounter was must win.

“Our goal from day one has been to be in the grand final and to do well in the Asian Champions League,” Leijer said.

“At this point of the year, you want to be alive in all competitiosn, and we are.

“It’s going to be tough from here, there’s no doubt about it, and we are probably going to have to win every game we play but that’s the mindset we are going to have to have.

“But we are looking forward to the challenge and we believe we can achieve something special.”

Melbourne Victory take on Wellington Phoenix in Wellington this Saturday night, with kick-off at 3:30pm (AEST).
