Football Federation Victoria (FFV) is pleased to announce Dave Edmondson as the new Head Coach of Melbourne Victory Women and FFV Women-s National Training Centre.
Edmondson joins the Victory Women following their most successful season in history, and his blend of elite youth coaching experience – including World Cup campaigns – and proven results at senior level means that he is an ideal choice to take the reins at this point in time.
Holder of a UEFA A Licence and working his way towards his Pro Licence this year, Edmondson has a history of improving all teams he is involved with and has a track record of maximising player development with at least 29 of his players moving on to national team football including Marco Rojas and Chris Wood.
Typically coaching young squads in senior competitions, Edmondson still achieved strong results including National and Runners-Up titles in New Zealand while he also led the New Zealand U17 Girls to the FIFA U20 World Cup Finals in 2010. It is this experience with talented young players that makes Edmondson the perfect fit for Victoria-s talented female players.
Edmondson comes direct from Adelaide United where he took over a struggling outfit, before leading them to their first win in 35 matches. During his time with the Lady Reds and Football Federation South Australia NTC, he turned the team-s playing style around, forged them into a competitive unit and in only two seasons produced four national age group representatives, including Emma Checker who has gone onto the Matildas.
FFV-s Talented Player Development Manager Les Bee said that Edmondson ticked all the boxes in terms of development, performance and football philosophy.
“We-re excited to have Dave on board in Victoria,” said Bee.
“His mantra of player development and team structure is in line with the direction FFV are taking with their elite player programs.
“He has watched our junior state teams at National Championships and is looking forward to working with the quality of players we have in Victoria, as well as our state coaches to produce improved performance across the board.
“With his history of improving teams as a Head Coach, we look forward to seeing his work with the NTC program and for that to transfer to Melbourne Victory Women to make them even more of a threat in the W-League.”
With Victoria and Victory currently bursting with talented youth players, Edmondson-s ability to get the best out of players in a team environment makes him the perfect candidate to take Victorian women-s football to the next level.
