Melbourne Victory suffered a late 1-0 Derby loss to City in the Westfield W-League on Thursday.

Summary

Yukari Kinga scored an 89th-minute winner at ABD Stadium in Broadmeadows.

Casey Dumont had earlier saved an Emily van Egmond penalty, but Victory was unable to hold City out as its three-game winning run in the Derby came to an end.

After a scrappy start, the encounter came to life midway through the first half.

Dumont made a fine low save to deny Van Egmond in the 24th minute before that pair were at the centre of the key moment of the first half.

Teigen Allen was penalised for a handball in the penalty area, but Dumont dived to her left to push away Van Egmond’s spot-kick.

Grace Maher and Natasha Dowie – playing her 50th game for the club – almost combined, while Jenna McCormick produced a good block to deny Milica Mijatovic.

A well-organised Victory continued to frustrate City in the second half, while it had its moments from set-pieces.

Dumont was called into action in the 71st minute, diving down low to her left to hold onto a Kyah Simon effort.

Simon and Aivi Luik went close for City before it found the winner, Kinga sweeping home a Steph Catley cross in the 89th minute.
