W-League report: Newcastle 0-7 Victory

W-League report: Newcastle 0-7 Victory

Melbourne Victory returned to the Westfield W-League winners list with a dominant 7-0 win over the Newcastle Jets on Sunday.

Summary

Victory started with intensity and put the Jets on the back foot in just the 3rd minute, with an Annalise Longo header putting Melbourne ahead.

Longo made it 2-0 just four minutes later with a tidy finish in the left corner.

Casey Dumont was rarely tested but did well to deal with the Jets only real opportunity of the first half in the 12th minute.

Melbourne dominated possession and added a third goal with a cheeky Natasha Dowie chip of the goalkeeper.

Darian Jenkins made the most of some Jets uncertainty in the box on the verge of half time, pouncing on a loose ball to make it 4-0.

The lead was the largest Victory have held at half time of a Westfield W-League match.

Jenkins added her second goal early in the second half with a strong header from close range.

Victory made it 6-0 after Jets defender Cassidy Davis put the ball in the back of her own net off her shoulder.

Melina Ayres headed home Victory’s seventh and final goal with less than ten minutes to play from a perfect corner.
