Melbourne Victory’s winning run came to an end with a 4-0 loss to City in a Westfield W-League Derby clash on Sunday.

Summary

Victory’s four-game winning streak was ended in the defeat at Lakeside Stadium.

Claire Emslie scored a brace to go with goals from Emily van Egmond and Kyah Simon for City.

However, Victory remained three points clear in fourth place after Brisbane Roar’s loss to Perth Glory.

Victory was pushed back early and while Natasha Dowie, Darian Jenkins and Angela Beard all threatened, it fell behind in the 21st minute.

Moments after Victory goalkeeper Casey Dumont made a great save, Van Egmond curled an effort into the top corner.

Emslie doubled City’s lead just after the half-hour mark, rounding Dumont before finishing.

Dowie put a 20-yard effort onto the roof of the net, but Victory went into the break down 2-0.

While Dumont did well to deny Van Egmond to begin the second half, City added to its lead through Emslie, who put away a rebound after initially being denied by the Victory goalkeeper.

Simon tapped in City’s fourth approaching the hour-mark, while City goalkeeper Lydia Williams almost fumbled a Beard cross over the line in the 65th minute.

Williams also tipped over a Haley Hanson effort late on as Victory’s winning run was ended.
