Melbourne Victory hosts Brisbane Roar in a top-of-the-table Foxtel Y-League clash on Sunday.

Summary

Victory is on a four-match unbeaten run heading into the encounter at Epping Stadium.

It sits on 10 points in Conference A, just one behind Brisbane with three regular-season games left to play for both teams.

Victory was held to a 2-2 draw against Perth Glory in Round 6.

Nishan Velupillay scored his second goal of the season and Luis Lawrie-Lattanzio netted his first as all four strikes came in the second half.

Victory has three home games to finish the campaign, hosting Brisbane, City and Adelaide United.

It has gone unbeaten since a 7-0 loss to Brisbane in the opening round.

Head coach Gareth Naven’s pre-match thoughts

“If we’re realistic about players and what they want to do is obviously they want to finish as high and win as many games as they can. The question for us is always how do you do that and it always comes down to what type of performance are we going to deliver on the weekend, it always comes down to that and how good we are at doing it. I said it all year during the NPL, our young players need to learn – and they’re getting better at it – how to perform, what it looks like and what are they giving to the team so that happens more often than less often. The more matches our young players play, the more matches we all play generally, they get more experience at different situations, same situations, they perform better at it. Our performance against Brisbane originally, the first 30 minutes were at a level that we should and need to perform at, we’re just looking to get better at that and I think the last couple of games the boys have got better at that and I think you can see some real evidence there that shows you what the Melbourne Victory youth team’s identity is starting to become.”
